Paul Harvey--Predictions from 1965

 

I came across this fascinating radio broadcast from longtime commentator, Paul Harvey.

For those of you who don't remember Paul Harvey--or are too young to have ever heard him--he was a no-holds-barred man who spoke directly, truthfully and insightfully. Millions of Americans listened to him every night, and we all turned off our radios having been entertained, enlightened and even a little smarter.



This radio clip from 1965 is somewhat prophetic in Mr. Harvey's analysis of where the United States was headed. Looking back, we can see that this transcript was dead on accurate. Take a listen...

 

 

 

A Letter to My Congressional Reps

Following this week's story about the prisoner swap with the Taliban--our enemy--there is a growing uproar that President Obama overstepped his power and authority in making a deal with the Taliban, exchanging five of their Commanders, for one US soldier--and a deserter at that!

I decided this evening to write a letter to my Congressional Representatives (2 Senators and 1 Rep) on the subject of calling for Impeachment and Removal of President Obama for abuse of power and trampling the Constitution. Here's my letter:

"When is Congress going to get off their partisan butts and demand accountability from the President for his abuse of power and blatant attacks on the Constitution?

Benghazi, the hunt for Edward Snowden, the NSA Scandal, pushing immigration reform at the expense of the American people--his bosses!, failing to enforce law (particulary, DOMA) in favor of a personal agenda, openly declaring his "right" to create law and make decisions that bypass Congress, and now, the whole Prisoner swap debacle that is, at it's core, a dereliction of duty by the President for rearming an enemy with personnel while we are still engaged in a conflict with said enemy.

The Presidents seems to think he can do whatever he wants, rather than being constrained by the Balance of Power system that protects this country from a dictator. If anything is inconvenient, the President just brushes it aside and moves unilaterally to do whatever he chooses, while the voice of the people is ignored. This is not right and has gone on long enough! Time for Congress to put a stop to the man who seems to think he is a King, instead of a President.

PLEASE, do whatever must be done to stop Mr. Obama from further damaging the Office of the President of the United States. Congress was established for a reason, and the President obviously thinks it is a meaningless body that is powerless to stop his march to whatever end his agenda dictates. Please stand up and say, "Enough!"
Impeach and Remove this President!"

If you feel President Obama's actions are abusive of his office and the Constitution, PLEASE take a minute to write YOUR Senators and Representative in Congress and demand that they take action to preserve this country!

If you stand by and do nothing, so will Congress. Write, call, email...just get involved and help protect the United States from further damage this President will cause all of us.

Is America Starting to Target Thought Crime?

"Last week, Michelle Obama made headlines when she exhorted graduating high schoolers in a commencement address to monitor their families for politically incorrect thoughts and behaviors.

To one journalist, this was more than an off-hand comment made by the first lady. In the opinion of Cheryl Chumley, a reporter for The Washington Times and the author of “Police State USA,” Michelle Obama’s remark reflects a growing trend in America to target and attack individuals for committing “thought crime.”

“Michelle Obama’s push for kids around the nation to monitor their family members for perceived racist comments is just another way the government seeks to inject itself into an area it doesn’t really belong — the American home,” Chumley told The Daily Caller Monday.

“Having the first lady wag her finger at us and send America’s youth on some sort of quest to scour the homes and backyards of our nation’s families for any mention of a racist joke, slur or slight is nanny-governance run amok — something that belongs in a George Orwell novel, not the White House, Chumley said.”

Chumley sees a troubling growth of America’s most powerful political figures now singling out private individuals for their beliefs, and using government agencies and public denunciations to intimidate opponents into silence.

“Harry Reid attacking the Koch brothers for the crime of giving money to conservative causes is just as bad. President Obama, Joe Biden and the entire cast of the White House, for slamming lawful gun owners for exercising their Second Amendment rights, and for trying to drum up emotional-fueled support to ram through gun control,” Chumley listed off. “The IRS targeting of tea party and patriotic non-profits and our nation’s highest law enforcement official, Eric Holder stonewalling on a special prosecutor appointment — does it get any more police state than that?”

The Washington Times reporter sees the creation of hate crime laws as one of the first steps in our country’s history in the direction of attacking unpopular and politically incorrect thoughts in America.

“What comes to mind when I think of the genesis for this growing trend of government to control Americans’ speech, and by extension, thoughts, is when the notion of hate crime was brought into our criminal prosecution system — as if acts of violence that are committed because of racial divides deserve a different category of ‘extra-special bad,’” Chumley stated.

“Political correctness and pandering politicians have fueled this narrative in recent years. Anybody who throws the race card on a regular basis — think Eric Holder, Al Sharpton, Harry Reid — is guilty to a certain degree of clamping down on free speech, and in turn, making Americans even wary of what they think.”

And it’s not just the government enforcing this new speech code, in Chumley’s opinion — private companies are just as complicit in regulating speech that’s deemed offensive by the government and media.

“Private companies, like A&E with the “Duck Dynasty” debacle, are getting just as bad as government when it comes to clamping down on free speech, especially when religious views are involved — or, of late, the gay rights movement,” Chumley stated. “I’m all for businesses reacting to free market pressures from their customer base — but really, they need to show a little more spine.”

In Chumley’s opinion, Americans growing a backbone and holding firm to their beliefs would be enough to resist this apparent infringement on individual rights.

“When Dan Cathy, president of Chick-fil-A, stood strong in the face of gay rights activists, you didn’t see his business crumble and fold. Rather, you saw those who believe in freedom of speech rise up and stand in Chick-fil-A lines across the nation to support him,” the “Police State USA” author stated. “The only answer is to refuse to be cowed. We’re a nation that’s founded on the belief that rights come from God, not government.”"

If this doesn't scare the hell out of you, then you are nothing more than one of the growing number of sheep being led to the slaughter. The very notion of reporting others for their political beliefs is Orwellian at its core. We are guaranteed the Freedom of Speech in the First Amendment. If the First Lady of the United States is advocating the policing of thoughts and opinions, then we must ask, "What does the President think about such a position?"
IF he supports this position, we, as American citizens, need to press Congress to Impeach the President for a failure to support and defend The Constitution of the United States. Let's hope it doesn't come to that. In either case, I urge you to write your Congressional Representatives (House and Senate) demanding the President answer this vital question. Remember, WE are his boss--not the other way around!

Memorial Day Message from Sen. Hatch

Happy Memorial Day! Dear Friends: As we gather with friends and family this weekend to celebrate Memorial Day, I hope we can all take a moment to remember the true meaning of this holiday and express sincere gratitude to our nation’s veterans who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the cause of freedom. From Gettysburg to Heartbreak Ridge, Bellau Wood to Bastogne, and Kasserine Pass to Kandahar, millions of Americans have paid the ultimate sacrifice to ensure, as President Abraham Lincoln put it, “that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.”  Today, thanks to the sacrifices of our veterans, America not only endures but inspires heads and hearts across the globe with a love of freedom and opportunity. Our military service men and women and their families are true heroes, and it is a great honor and sacred duty to pay homage to them at every opportunity – on long ago battlefields such as Gettysburg; at the graves of 5,000 Americans in a beautiful cemetery in Luxembourg; at the World War II, Korea and Vietnam Memorials on the National Mall in Washington; and to fallen Utah heroes, wherever they may rest.  These are not merely tourist stops or vacation destinations – they are sacred ground. So I hope you’ll join with me this Memorial Day weekend and pay tribute to sacrifices the men and women who don our nation’s uniform and their families make each day to protect our freedom. Commentary: The Gay Agenda in the Media

An article on today's Foxsports.com tells about a broadcaster in the Dallas area who rails against anyone who objects to the recent media blitz surrounding openly gay football player--recently drafted at #249--Michael Sam. He goes on to vilify anyone who speaks against the tv coverage of Mr. Sam kissing his boyfriend on live TV when his name was announced in the draft. I absolutely had to speak out, and here was my response:

"I don't care what the polls say, the majority of Americans do NOT want homosexuality in their faces, nor think that it is normal. I suspect these polls that show tolerance are taken in places like Miami, NY and San Francisco. Let's see what those same polls show in places like Oklahoma City, Des Moines, Cheyenne and other Midwestern areas. As for this whole thing with Michael Sam, he only declared he was gay for the PR jolt his pre-draft standing would make. His agent was a genius because, if a team doesn't draft him, then they can call the NFL a bunch of homophobes; and if he gets drafted, then that team is progressive and accepting--a win either way for those behind the gay agenda.

I personally don't care if Sam is gay; I strongly object to the now constant coverage of him simply because he IS gay, not to mention that nauseating replay of him kissing his boyfriend when he was drafted. That was and is disgusting. The majority of America is not ready, nor do they even want, to see two men embracing this way. The broadcasters, as another poster stated correctly, had better tow the line if they want to keep their jobs. If you say anything other than total acceptance [on the matter], then you'll be collecting unemployment faster than the denigrators will attack this comment.

Sorry folks...Gay is NOT OK in my, nor many other American's, books. And this has NOTHING to do with hate--I don't hate gays one bit-- It has everything to do with morality, or the lack thereof, and the seemingly constant push by the nation's media to portray total acceptance of homosexuality. Seeing two guys kiss is vomit-inducing, and the constant messages across the spectrum of media that portray homosexuality as a normal part of everyone's lives are disturbing and I for one, am sick of seeing gay this, or gay that pushed on America ad nauseum. Enough already!

Governments on all levels, business leaders and others have been cowed into positions of acquiescence and tolerance for fear of lawsuits or of losing their jobs all because you might disagree with those behind the recent push to force the acceptance of homosexuality in America. Free speech is lost in the din of shouting from the gays, and differing opinions are non-existent as anyone speaking contrary to the gays are blithely labeled with hateful names and terms that seek only to destroy and discredit, rather than actually engaging in any meaningful dialogue and civil discourse.

THAT is my objection to this whole thing with Michael Sam. If that is viewed as hateful, then so be it. Because no matter what I say, or how I say it, those who claim tolerance and acceptance in their fight for equality will view these comments with disregard and hate and will, accordingly, attack me for this response. That's OK. At least I am speaking my mind instead of spouting words that I don't believe myself."

Fourth of July

Due to having dialysis today, I just want to sat to everyone,

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!

237 years ago, this great Nation was formed; and the world was forever changed by its inception.

I hope that you can take just a few moments to quietly ponder on those incredible events and offer your supplications of thanks to the brave men who risked their very lives in order "to form a more perfect Union."

We're All Just Americans!

Muslim-American; African-American; Korean-American, etc....We're all just Americans!

But wait...according to the pc police, that isn't true. Nope. If you are of African descent, you are an African-American. If you came from Japan, you are a Japanese-American; If you are from Italy, you are Italian-American.

Ok, I'll stop. You get the point.

My issue here is that all the enthicities, religions, etc. make up who we are as a country. However, groups that are 'out there' want to constantly remind us that we are individuals to the point of ludicrousy.

Pop Quiz: If you are a citizen of the United States of America, are you American...Yes, or No?

Why qualify the answer? You either are an American, or you are not.

The pc labels so blithely tossed about these days teach us more about segregation than integration. Why should we distinguish our heritage (no matter how far back you go to "the old country") above our citizenship? Our histories (as people) teach us where we came from, and the road traveled to where we are today. They are wonderful for learning, growing, and appreciating the trials, struggles, and triumphs of those who came before.

But when we place our [past] cultural heritage above our current citizenship, and isolate ourselves behind labels and pride, we are only isolating ourselves from learning about each other, and helping one another to excel, and to move forward.

I am of Swedish descent...a mere 4 generations removed from the land of my great-grandparents' birth. Am I a Swedish American? No way. I am red, white and blue--through and through. I grew up seeing the racial divide of the late 60's and early 70's. My best friend at the time was of African descent. I didn't care. He was my friend.

But when I see group after group of whatever special interest (or ethnic background) to which they belong single themselves out by saying "We're (this or that) American," I just cringe. At the same time, I am saddened that we, as a country, have allowed ourselves to be labeled demographically apart from each other.

Yes, we should all be proud of where we come from. Aside from the Native population, we are ALL immigrants (most by choice...others not). Our differences constitute what makes this nation great.

But above being proud of where we came from, we should be far more proud to be an American; to be a citizen of THE greatest country on the earth. I hope that one day, the pc police will go the way of the dinosaur, and instead of being reminded of our differences, we are all able to hold our heads high and be proud to be an American. No qualifiers, no addendums. Just American.
